One Hand Clapping - Jeff Sypherd

The drawings included in 'One Hand Clapping' are from a selection of three sketchbooks first viewed in the summer of 2020, a period of time that served as a crucible for the distinct style Sypherd is known for now. The work in these sketchbooks has a visceral sense of urgency and momentum, all while displaying an undeniable certainty and confidence. The unique gestural markings are made with somewhat basic materials–colored pencils, crayons, ballpoint pen–all of which reinforce the strength in composition and subject material. These drawings serve as an entry point to Sypherd’s current body of work, and we are running through that door.
